The Idea

Most people in Silicon Valley aren’t thinking about livestock. Yet Ranch Hub co-founder Brian Maddox has a passion for livestock. When his dad asked for some help in promoting his club calves online, Brian started researching options for an inexpensive way to market livestock online. What he found was startling – websites reminiscent of the mid 1990’s at prices most small livestock producers could never afford. The lack of options combined with Brian’s decade of experience in technology sparked the idea for a new kind of livestock community. Brian could think of no one better to help build this community than longtime friend Les Carlson. Brian and Les showed livestock together in 4-H before working for several livestock producers to get their animals ready for shows, so both were quite familiar with their target audience.

Brian and Les wanted to offer much more than a website with a bunch of links and photos. They wanted to bring the latest technology to the livestock industry, offering users the ability to connect with one another and leverage the power of the community. They wanted users to be able to easily manage their own information and expand their network in a cost effective way.

The Launch

The Silicon Valley based community network, incorporated in 2009, launched its site in 2010. Ranch Hub combines the basics – photos, videos, and website links – with innovative technology – animal reviews, eLearning, and forums – to offer a fresh alternative to traditional online options. Ranch Hub is a community networking site dedicated to people involved with livestock. Our mission is to form a community of livestock producers, industry experts, junior exhibitors, and service providers that participate in the livestock industry and to become the industry standard for connecting people in the livestock trade.
